Udang Nestum - So Yummy!
Let's start with the star of the dish - succulent prawns coated in crunchy Nestum. Here's what you'll need:
- 500g of fresh prawns
- 1 egg white
- 3 tablespoons of corn flour
- 3 tablespoons of Nestum cereal
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon of minced ginger
- 1 red chilli, sliced
- Oil for frying
To prepare, start by peeling and deveining the prawns, leaving the tails on for a better grip. Then, beat the egg white until foamy and mix in the corn flour, Nestum cereal, salt and sugar. Coat each prawn well with the mixture and let it rest for 5 minutes.
Heat up a generous amount of oil in a wok, and once hot, fry the prawns until golden brown. Set aside on some paper towels to drain off any excess oil.
Sauce to Tickle Your Tastebuds
No delicious dish is complete without a great sauce to go along with it. Here's what you need to make the sauce:
- 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon of light soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon of dark soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 2 tablespoons of tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon of cornstarch, mixed with 4 tablespoons of water
- 1 tablespoon of oil
- 1 tablespoon of minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon of minced ginger
- 1 red chilli, sliced
Heat up a tablespoon of oil in a pot, and add in the minced garlic, ginger and chilli. Fry until fragrant, then pour in the rest of the sauce ingredients. Cook until the sauce thickens and turn off the heat.
Serving it Up
Now that you have your prawns and sauce, it's time to plate up. Start by arranging the prawns on a plate, then drizzle the sauce over the top. Finally, garnish with some chopped spring onions and sliced red chillies.
